SOC Not Entering Compass Sport Cup!

Profile picture for user Kevin Bracher
By Kevin Bracher , 30 December, 2011

SOC have not entered the Compass Sport Cup for 2012.

Why?

In 2011 we made the final and again travelled up to the Peak District to take part.

We just managed to put out a team as many of our regular Orienteers were unavailable through injury or other commitments. At least 25 runners are needed to score. To be competitive we would need to put out a much larger team!

Our team had a great day out and enjoyed running on the Longshaw estate. I can only thank those who made the trip for their heart and effort!

As a Club we are short of members in our junior ranks and M21 & W21. These are key classes for success in the CS Cup and in 2011 we only just filled the places in certain categories even with certain members running up from their classes.

The 2012 Compass Sport Cup Final is in Scotland.

As we struggled to put a team together for the Peak District we would find it even more difficult to field a team to go to Scotland!

Is it right to take part in a competition if you are going to turn down the chance of running in the final if you qualify?

I do not think it is. A number of SOC members also agree. So this year we will not take part.

You can still enter the Qualifying events on February 19th as individuals.

TVOC host the SCOA event at Bradenham, near High Wycome, a level B event.

SO host the SEOA event, another level B event at Worth Lodge , Crawley.

So you have a choice of venues you can run at.
