Chartwell Green and West End
UK > Southampton > 2021 Summer League > Chartwell Green
Chartwell Green and West End welcomes you to the 3rd event in the current SOC MapRun League. More information on the League and the events is available HERE. This event will be available in the MapRun app from Saturday 07/08/2021. For your run to count in the League, you must submit your results by the end of Sunday 22/08/2021. After that, you can still have a go at the course but it won't count for the League. I am pleased to share part of my covid training area with yourselves and I have steered the course away from the steepest parts of the terrain.
You can do the course more than once but only your first go counts towards the League. There will be a SOC social for this MapRun, on Thursday the 12th August. Meet at Master Builder pub at 18:30.
Location: The Start and Finish are in the car park of Master Builder pub - Swaythling Rd, West End, Southampton SO30 3AH, GR SU46148. What 3 words thigh.reject.less
Format: 45-minute Score. Points are 10, 20, 30, 40, or 50 per control: 10 points for 1 - 10, 20 points for 11 - 20, 30 points for 21 - 30, 40 points for 31 - 40, and 50 points for control 41. Please note that the control numbers are not consecutive (there are not 41 controls!). There is a penalty of 10 points per minute late back or part thereof. Total score is 430 points.
MapRun App: Use the MapRun6 app. Do not use the original MapRun app as it does not understand the score format. When navigating to the event, select "UK", then "Southampton" (not "Hampshire"), and then "2021 Summer League" or, if you have MapRun6, open this link. See the MapRun website for guidance on configuring your phone to get the best results.
Map: Two map formats are available below; the StreetO Map, and the PseudoO Map. Loose control descriptions are also available for download. The StreetO Map is used in the MapRun app. So I recommend you download and print the PseudO map, as it includes the areas of rough open and fenced areas. Best to keep to the paths in the wooded areas as there is a lot of undergrowth in the summer months. There is a forbidden route on a path in Hatch Grange Park in West End, that is because the gate is locked around 5pm - there are other entrances available! Also 2 controls are man-made objects, 31 one is a beacon in Hatch Grange Park and 41 is two rather large sculptures of everyday objects in West End Wood!
Terrain: Primarily urban with some small areas of woodland and parkland. Roads along with paved and gravel footpaths and some grass areas make up the majority of the course.
Safety: Please take care when crossing any road - particularly on the busy North/South road adjacent to the start/finish. Under 16s should be accompanied by an adult.
