Organiser's Comments.
A superb day made the event, the frost first thing and the brilliant sunshine meant that the forest looked at it's best. The courses planned by Simon were also well received and I heard many complimentary comments from happy finishers. Jean & Gill also put on a great string course aided by Gordon.
A big thank you to John Shucksmith for controlling and to all the SOC helpers who made the event possible. Jerry once again ran the Emit side of things all day and still managed to put the results up on the Emit website promptly Sunday evening after a long day in the forest.
With any entry on the day event some queuing is unavoidable. We have to retain records of participants for insurance purposes and also keep a record of numbers on each course so that we know how many maps we have left. We nearly got the number of map right, running out of blue and green course maps just before closing tome. Our registration team made every effort to accommodate everyone and some kind runners surrendered their maps after finishing so that late arrivals could have a run and we did have some very late arrivals!
There was a very good mix of regular orienteers and quite a few novice and newcomers to orienteering. I hope you all enjoyed the event and your day in the New Forest. Thank you all for coming.
The assembly area was clean and tidy as I vacated the site at 16:00, with little evidence that we had been there at all. After collecting all my road signs and returning equipment to the club store I arrived home at 17:45 having left home at 07:30. Simon collected the last of the controls well after dark at around 18:30 after putting in well over a 12 hour day! We never got round to having a beer so we still have that to look forward to.
